Community Outreach

Compassion in Action: Community Outreach Project

At The Healing Home Rescue, compassion isn’t limited to the animals we save — it extends to every member of our community. Compassion in Action is our ongoing outreach initiative dedicated to supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Connecticut.

This project was created to meet an immediate need: warmth, comfort, and dignity for our neighbors who are struggling. Through seasonal donation drives and community care events, we collect and distribute essential items such as food, clothing, blankets, hygiene products, and backpacks filled with necessities.

Our first official outreach event will take place on November 2, 2025, but donations are accepted year-round. Every contribution — big or small — helps us build a stronger, more compassionate community.

We believe that healing begins with connection, and that together, we can create real change through empathy and action.

Compassion in Action: The Healing Home Rescue’s Community Item Drive

The Compassion in Action project was created to extend The Healing Home Rescue’s mission of empathy and service beyond animal rescue and into the heart of our local community.

Our goals are to:

Provide essential support to individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity by distributing food, clothing, and hygiene products.

- Foster community connection by encouraging neighbors, volunteers, and local businesses to come together in acts of collective care.

- Promote dignity and compassion through outreach that centers humanity and understanding, not pity or judgment.

- Build sustainable impact by developing an ongoing network of donation drives and partnerships that continue well beyond our first event.

- Through these goals, Compassion in Action strives to remind our community that small acts of kindness can grow into lasting change.

Items We’re Collecting

We’re seeking donations of essential goods that can make a real difference in someone’s day-to-day comfort:

Non-perishable food (canned goods, pasta, cereals, protein bars, water bottles)

Gently used or new clothing, gloves, hats, and blankets

Shoes, socks, and backpacks

Hygiene products (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, face wipes, menstrual products, hand warmers, etc.)

Each donation is a small act of love that adds up to meaningful change.
